[January 23rd, 2007 - WKJeeps.com] - Chrysler Group announced today at the Washington Auto Show pricing for its first diesel-powered, full-size sport-utility vehicle (SUV) to be offered in the United States. The 2007 Jeep® Grand Cherokee with a 3.0-liter common rail turbo diesel (CRD) engine will begin to arrive at Jeep dealerships in March. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited CRD will begin at $38,475, including $695 destination. The 3.0-liter V-6 CRD engine will be available on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and Overland 4x2 and 4x4 models. “The Chrysler Group is leading the way to bring the advantages of diesel to various U.S. vehicle segments,” said Tom LaSorda, President and CEO, Chrysler Group. “Chrysler Group will continue to build upon our diesel leadership in the years to come. We believe that clean diesel technology can and should be a part of the national energy solution. It’s crucial that our country’s policymakers set regulations that encourage a diversity of approaches to reducing our dependence on oil.” The new 3.0-liter V-6 CRD engine, built by Mercedes-Benz, produces 215 hp (160 kW) @ 3,800 rpm and 376 lb.-ft. torque (510 N•m) @ 1,600-2,800 rpm and gets an estimated fuel economy of 20 miles city and 25 miles highway for 4x2 models and 20 miles city and 24 miles highway for 4x4 models. Most recently, the engine earned a spot on “Ward’s 10 Best Engines” list. The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD offers class-leading torque, outstanding towing capacity (7,400 pounds), and class-leading driving range of approximately 450 miles. Clean diesel technology also improves fuel economy by up to 30 percent and has up to 20 percent fewer carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited CRD With an MSRP of $38,475 for 4x2 models and $41,715 for 4x4 models (including destination) the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited CRD includes Sirius Satellite Radio, Quadra-Drive II®*, five-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch aluminum wheels, memory system (seats, mirrors, pedals, etc.), air conditioning with dual-zone automatic temperature control, rain sensitive windshield wipers, premium leather seats, SmartBeam headlamps, tire pressure monitor, engine block heater, and AM/FM/six-disc CD/MP3 radio. (*4x4 models only) “The Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel will offer excellent performance, increased fuel economy, class-leading torque, towing and a driving range of 450 miles – the equivalent of driving from Washington D.C. to Boston,” said Craig Love, Vice President--Rear-Wheel-Drive Product Team, Chrysler Group. “Unlike past experiences Americans may have had with diesel engines 20 years ago, the 3.0-liter CRD available on the Jeep Grand Cherokee is engineered to be a smooth-running, quiet, clean engine. Consumers may forget that they are driving a diesel vehicle.” The Jeep brand also announced last year that the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee would have a flex-fuel capable 4.7-liter SOHC V-8 engine, which gives customers the ability to use a fuel with an 85 percent concentration of ethanol (E85) in their vehicles. Flex-fuel vehicles support renewable sources of fuel and reduce emissions. The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues Chrysler Group’s commitment to alternative fuels and technology. More than 60 percent of the Chrysler Group vehicles sold in Western Europe are diesel powered. Between 2003 and 2007, the Chrysler Group will triple the number of diesel offerings outside North America. Of the estimated 20 vehicles available, 12 or more will have the option for a diesel powertrain (up from four in 2003). The Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD will be manufactured at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. The Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD will be fueled with B5 (5 percent) biodiesel at the assembly plant to help increase the awareness of biodiesel. The 3.0-liter V-6 CRD engine is built at the Mercedes-Benz Berlin Marienfelde Plant in Berlin, Germany. 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD Pricing

[December 26th, 2006 - Exclusive WKJeeps.com information] Several months ago WKJeeps.com revealed for the first time anywhere some of the new options that will be available on the 2008 Grand Cherokee. Our exclusive original list included heated second row seats, a tilt/telescoping steering column, the MyGIG touch-screen navigation radio, Sirius Satellite Streaming Video, a 115-volt power outlet and a new 3-valve 4.7L engine with increased horsepower and torque. We now have more exclusive details on additional features that will be offered on the 2008 models, including, for the first time on a Jeep vehicle, HID projector headlamps. The new lamps will be an available option on the 2008 models of the Grand Cherokee Limited, Overland and SRT8. Pricing is expected to be around $550-$600 for HID option. Off-road enthusiasts will welcome two more new features, Hill Ascent Control and Hill Descent Control: The Hill Ascent control feature assists the driver when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the same level of brake pressure the driver applied for a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal. The system will release the brake pedal in proportion to the amount of throttle applied. If the throttle is not applied within a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal, Hill Ascent Control will release brake pressure. Hill Descent control allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. This system applies the brakes to each wheel individually when needed to reduce forward motion while negotiating down steep grades. Trailer Sway Control is another new feature that will be offered on Grand Cheokees equipped with trailer tow packages. Trailer Sway Control reduces trailer sway (an alternating yaw of the vehicle) and improves handling in adverse towing conditions caused by crosswinds and traffic, provides trailer stability and increases towing safety. The system monitors the vehicle’s movement relative to the driver’s intended path, and the vehicle yaw sensor recognizes sway. Trailer Sway Control applies brake pressure on one front wheel to counteract the yaw induced by the trailer and applies brake pressure to all four wheels to slow the vehicle. As the trailer sways to the other side of the vehicle, Trailer Sway Control will increase pressure to the opposite side of the vehicle. The system will continue to apply alternating brake pressure and reduce engine torque until the trailer is under control. Engines: As officially announced earlier this year, Jeep will be offering a new 3.0L diesel engine in the 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland models. Production of models with the new diesel engine will start February 22, 2007. The diesel will continue for the 2008 model year, along with the 5.7L MDS Hemi and the 6.1L SRT8 Hemi. A new 3-valve version of the 4.7L engine is set to debut for 2008, with increased horsepower and torque numbers. Other expected changes for 2008, the 4th year of the WK generation, will include some interior upgrades and refreshening as well as some minor exterior changes. --WKJeeps.com exclusive information--

Chrysler and Jeep® Vehicles in Graz, Austria
“This is a key milestone for the Chrysler Group,” said Thomas Hausch, Executive Director of International Sales and Marketing. “We are experiencing an unprecedented sales success outside of North America with 17 consecutive months of year-over-year sales increases, and our manufacturing operation in Graz, Austria, is a key component of this success.” Hausch also indicated that the efficient and flexible plant in Austria is one of the reasons that allowed the Chrysler Group to be fastest growing automotive brand family in Western Europe from June through September 2006. Vehicle production in Graz began with the founding of Eurostar in 1990, a joint venture between Chrysler and Steyr-Daimler-Puch Fahrzeugtechnik, now Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik (MSF), Eurostar produced three generations of the Chrysler Voyager minivan, and for a short period of time, the Chrysler PT Cruiser, before being sold to Magna Steyr in 2002. Production of the Jeep Grand Cherokee began at Steyr-Daimler-Puch in 1994 under a contract manufacturing agreement with DaimlerChrysler Management Austria (DCMA). Since then, three generations of the Jeep Grand Cherokee have been built in Graz. Today, MSF assembles six Chrysler Group vehicles for delivery to almost all markets outside of North America where Chrysler Group operates. They are the Chrysler Voyager, Grand Voyager, Chrysler 300C Sedan, 300C Touring, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The plant also assembles the high-performance Chrysler 300C SRT8 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 models. In addition to the manufacturing operations at the Graz facility in Austria, Chrysler Group also produces Chrysler Crossfire vehicles in Osnabrueck, Germany. Open five days a week and working in three shifts around the clock, the Graz facility produces between 80,000 and 90,000 Chrysler group vehicles annually, employing flexible manufacturing techniques. MSF’s plant has two body shops for the first part of the body build, but one single production line. The Plant assembles gas, diesel, and left- and right-hand-drive vehicles for world markets. “The production system is totally flexible, so a Chrysler Voyager could come after a Jeep Grand Cherokee, followed by a Commander, then a Chrysler 300C. This helps us to adjust quickly in order to meet the market demand,” said Muellner. “The dedicated, well-trained workforce and cooperation between the different groups allowed the plant to reach this one-million-unit milestone.”

Powered by a 6.1-litre HEMI V-8 producing 420 bhp and 420 lb ft of torque, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is 25 per cent more powerful than the standard Grand Cherokee and uses a unique four-wheel drive system to help it accelerate to 62 mph in just 5.0 seconds, achieving a top speed of 152 mph. "When Jeep set out to create its quickest-ever model, it was with the race track rather than mud track in mind," said Peter Lambert, Managing Director of Chrysler Group UK. "The SRT8 is not intended to be off-road capable. Instead, with this injection of SRT DNA, the new Grand Cherokee SRT8 establishes a fresh benchmark for high-performance SUVs. It has the raw power to out-perform a Porsche Cayenne Turbo at a fraction of the price." Although the heart of the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the enlarged 6.1-litre HEMI V-8 engine, the aim of the four-wheel drive system is to maximise the on-road traction available to the driver, while being robust and reliable enough to handle the upgraded HEMI engine’s massive amounts of power and torque. The all-new unique transfer case is set up to deliver from five to 10 percent of torque to the front wheels, under normal driving conditions, with the remaining 90-to-95 percent being sent to the rear axle. When driving on slippery surfaces, the four-wheel drive system can automatically transfer up to 100 percent of torque to the front wheels when additional traction and stability is required. As well as the high-performance engine and four-wheel drive system, all SRT vehicles feature a race-inspired interior and performance-oriented exterior features. These features include an all-new front fascia, to reduce lift and drag and providing sufficient airflow to meet the increased cooling demands of the larger HEMI engine, unique air intake ducts that help cool the front brakes, specially designed side sill extensions that help to increase down force, a new rear fascia incorporating two large diameter exhaust tail pipes and five-spoke 20-inch forged aluminium wheels. To match the car’s performance characteristics, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 offers enhanced ride and handling, and first-class braking with an ultra-high performance Brembo racing-style braking system. The SRT8’s unique chassis set-up includes tuned Bilstein dampers, specially tailored spring rates and suspension bushings and larger-diameter anti-roll bars, together with 25 mm lower ride height and a re-tuned ESP system. Peter Lambert added: "This sensational addition to the Jeep model range is priced at £40,585 on-the-road and is on sale to UK customers in right-hand drive from July 2006. If driving enthusiasts want to get their hands on the fastest Jeep ever they will have to be as quick as the car itself! Only a handful will be brought into the UK this year."
[June 5th, 2006 - WKJeeps.com exclusive] Sirius Satellite Streaming Video will be a new option that will be offered by DaimlerChrysler on selected 2008 models. Sirius is planning to launch its nationwide live video service early next year and will use use Microsoft's Windows Media Video 9 software to help create and broadcast video programming. In DaimlerChrysler vehicles the live streaming video will be displayed via the rear entertainment DVD screen. According to our sources, Sirius Satellite Video will be an available option in Chrysler's all-new 2008 minivans as well as other 2008 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models that currently feature DVD entertainment systems. We were told that Jeep will offer the new option in several of its models including the Grand Cherokee and Commander. Jeep will also be updating their navigation radios for 2008, replacing the current REC model with the new "RER" touch screen model. The RER is debuting in several 2007 vehicles including the Dodge Nitro, Chrysler Sebring and Jeep Wrangler. Bringing streaming video into vehicles requires adding a small and inexpensive video decoder to the existing satellite radio receiver. Initial programming is expecting to consist of news, sports and of course plenty of children's programs. Monthly fees for the new service have not been announced yet but we assume that there will be a free subscription period for new vehicle owners as is currently offered with satellite radio systems. ©WKJeeps.com
[June 1st, 2006 - WKJeeps.com] Chrysler Group will announce today its plans to produce the first diesel-powered, full-size sport-utility vehicle (SUV) to be offered in the United States. The 2007 Jeep® Grand Cherokee with a 3.0-liter common rail turbo diesel (CRD) engine will arrive at Jeep dealerships in the first quarter of 2007. “DaimlerChrysler is a leader in automotive diesel applications in Europe, and it makes sense to continue to build on that experience by offering a modern, clean diesel for the U.S. market,” said Craig Love, Vice President -- Rear-Wheel-Drive Product Team, Chrysler Group. “The Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel will offer consumers increased fuel economy, class-leading torque, towing and driving range.” The new 3.0-liter CRD engine, built by Mercedes-Benz, produces 215 hp (160 kW) @ 3800 rpm and 376 lb.-ft. torque (510 N•m) @ 1600-2800 rpm and gets an estimated fuel economy of 19 miles city and 23 miles highway. The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD offers class-leading torque, outstanding towing capacity (7,400 lbs.), and class-leading driving range of approximately 425 miles. And, clean diesel technology improves fuel economy by up to 30 percent and has up to 20 percent fewer carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The 3.0-liter CRD engine will be available on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland models. “The 3.0-liter CRD is an efficient, smooth-running, clean engine that delivers fuel economy and performance,” said Bob Lee, Vice President -- Power Train Product Team, Chrysler Group. “Advanced diesel technology has improved over the last several years; engines are quieter and cleaner due to electronic controls, higher fuel pressures and advanced after-treatment systems.” Chrysler Group was the first automotive manufacturer in the United States to offer a mid-size, diesel-powered SUV, the 2005 Jeep Liberty with a 2.8-liter CRD engine. Based on consumer response, the diesel-powered Jeep Liberty exceeded the company’s expectations. More than 11,000 diesel-powered Jeep Liberty vehicles have been sold since production began. The Jeep Liberty diesel continues to be a strong seller, as consumers realize the benefits of diesel technology. The Jeep brand also announced earlier in the year that the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee would have a flex-fuel capable 4.7-liter SOHC V-8 engine, which gives customers the ability to use a fuel with an 85 percent concentration of ethanol (E-85) in their vehicles. Flex-fuel vehicles support renewable sources of fuel and reduce emissions. The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues Chrysler Group’s commitment to alternative fuels and technology. More than 60 percent of Chrysler Group vehicles sold in Western Europe are diesel-powered. Between 2003 and 2007, Chrysler Group will triple the number of diesel offerings outside North America. Of the estimated 20 vehicles available, 12 or more will have the option for a diesel powertrain (up from four in 2003). The Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD will be manufactured at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. The 3.0-liter CRD engine is built at the Mercedes-Benz Berlin Marienfelde Plant in Berlin, Germany. Pricing will be announced closer to availability.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the quickest, most powerful Jeep vehicle ever combining the 420-horsepower 6.1L SRT HEMI® V8 and four-wheel drive. This breathtaking Jeep also boasts a pair of firsts - the first Jeep branded Street and Racing Technology (SRT) vehicle and the first fourwheel drive SRT vehicle. The all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 outperforms competitive vehicles that cost twice as much and sets a new benchmark, with incredible on-road and all-weather performance. The all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 gets power to the pavement through an SRT-engineered full-time four-wheel drive system. With a 0-60 mph time of under 5 seconds (wet or dry), the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the second quickest SRT vehicle eclipsed only by the 510 horsepower Dodge Viper SRT10. The all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8's SRT developed 6.1 liter HEMI produces 90 more horsepower and 27 percent more power than the 5.7 liter HEMI equipped Jeep Grand Cherokee. A key part of the four-wheel-drive system is the transfer case that SRT engineers created from two different cases. They combined the front half of one case, chosen for its capability and light weight, with the rear half of a heavier-duty case, selected for it's toughness and ability to transfer power. Other elements of the drive system are a special torque converter, upgraded output shaft, heavy-duty driveshaft and Dana 44 rear differential. The all new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8's sporting character encompasses world class ride and handling, benchmark braking, functional, performance oriented exterior design and race-inspired interior appointments. Ride and handling are enhanced with improvements including SRT tuned dampers, unique sway bars, and specially tailored suspension bushing and spring rates. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) was specially calibrated for the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. The braking system of the all-new 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee includes Brembo four-piston calipers clamping 360 x 32 mm vented rotors in front, and 350 x 26 mm rotors in the rear. [October 20th -- WKJeeps.com exclusive] Starting next February Jeep will start building a series of 65th Anniversary Edition models. As with the 60th Anniversary Edition models released for the 2001 model year, the 2006 models will be limited production runs and will be built from February to April. The 2001 models featured unique two-tone interiors, chrome wheels, embroidered floor mats and Anniversary badges. Specific information is not available for the new series as it has yet to be announced. We would assume that the new editions will feature similar "enhancements". For more information on the 60th Anniversary Edition models see http://www.wjjeeps.com/sixtieth.htm.
Frankfurt, Sep 12, 2005 - Jeep® designers have gone to the extreme once again, creating two all-new sport-utility-vehicle (SUV) concepts that could expand the Jeep brand into new territory. The Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass concepts are compact Jeep 4x4s that would deliver fun, freedom, utility, capability, as well as the potential for exceptional fuel economy and interior flexibility — all at a great value. Making their debut at the 2005 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, these concepts hint at two future compact SUVs that the Jeep brand could build for global markets as soon as next year. With the potential for the powerful yet fuel-efficient all-new 2.4-liter World Engine and a state-of-the-art 2.0-liter diesel (for international markets), the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass concepts could be coupled with a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). All-new Jeep technology also would give these two concepts Jeep 4x4 capability. The two very distinct interpretations of a compact Jeep complement each other, yet target different sets of customers who seek great value and fuel efficiency. The Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass concepts would expand the brand’s global lineup, which includes Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Liberty (Cherokee outside North America) and the legendary Jeep Wrangler. “The Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot concepts prove Jeep continues to explore new territory,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President – Design, Chrysler Group. “These concept vehicles would allow Jeep to provide best-in-class capability to the compact SUV buyer at a great value, and do so with the credibility that only comes with a Jeep.” Jeep Patriot Concept: A Modern Interpretation of Classic Jeep Styling Strong and capable, the Patriot concept is unmistakably Jeep, designed to appeal to compact SUV buyers who want traditional Jeep styling with best-in-class off-road capability. Jeep Patriot is rugged, exuding the brand’s key attributes of mastery, authenticity, freedom and adventure, but would still offer exceptional fuel economy, interior flexibility and utility at a great value. “Simple, geometric forms and planar surfaces define Jeep Patriot’s timeless, purpose-built design,” said Creed. “Patriot’s face features Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille, a robust bumper, round headlamps, raised, free-standing fog lamps and a visible skid plate. All of this gives Jeep Patriot its robust, strong, capable off-road image.” Painted Armour Green with black door handles, body-side moldings, black accents, dark tinted windows and a stiffer windshield, Jeep Patriot would be built for maximum cargo volume, rugged driving conditions and excellent utility. Four doors and a rear liftgate provide easy access to the Jeep Patriot concept’s spacious and functional interior. Classic Jeep design cues include aggressive 17-inch off-road wheels and tires housed inside signature Jeep trapezoidal wheel openings. These combine with a raised roof rack that can hold additional gear to provide a no-nonsense, functional statement. Jeep Patriot’s higher beltline completes the vehicle’s protective profile. The rear of the vehicle features an upright backlight and a bold bumper that further illustrate the Jeep Patriot concept’s interior spaciousness and add to its rugged appearance and capability. Jeep Patriot not only looks like a Jeep, but all-new Jeep off-road technology would ensure Jeep Patriot could be a Trail Rated 4x4, which would make it the most capable vehicle in its class. Jeep Compass Concept: A New Type of Jeep in a Contemporary Package Sleek and sophisticated with a rally car toughness, the Jeep Compass concept would deliver Jeep fun, freedom and capability, broadening the global appeal of Jeep and attracting new buyers who might not have previously considered the brand. “The Jeep Compass concept is an all-new kind of Jeep,” Creed said. “Compact and nimble, the Jeep Compass concept is the right size for world markets and would offer performance, fuel economy and value in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.” True to Jeep’s signature design cues, the Jeep Compass concept features the brand’s signature seven-slot grille, round headlamps, large and capable fog lights and trapezoidal wheel openings. A steeply raked windshield, an expressive hood, low-to-the ground stance, deep fascia, wire mesh grille texture and prominent lower intake give the Jeep Compass concept a powerful and capable appearance. The Jeep Compass concept’s side profile is highly sculptured. Powerful fender forms exaggerate the Jeep Compass concept’s athletic stance, performance 19-inch wheels and red-line tires. From the rear, a roof-mounted spoiler completes the Jeep Compass performance message. The deep fascia is uniquely styled to accommodate a large chrome dual exhaust system, which also reinforces an aggressive, performance-oriented character.

[September 2nd -- WKJeeps.com exclusive] One of our inside sources has just told us that this fall Jeep will start offering the Hemi on 2006 Laredo models and 2006 base Commander models. The HEMI has previously been offered only on Limited models and recently on the new 2006 Overland. 2WD Laredo models with the HEMI will weigh almost 400 Lbs less than the Limited 4WD versions which should result in noticeably faster performance numbers. Production of base models with the HEMI is set to start in early December and models should be in showrooms the same month.
[September 1st -- WKJeeps.com] Just a few simple tips can help owners of Chrysler Group engines with Multi-Displacement System (MDS) get the most fuel mileage possible from their 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine. The customer does not need to drive in a certain way to realize a fuel economy improvement with MDS, but these driving habits can maximize their fuel savings with this technology.
With the addition of MDS to HEMI-equipped Dodge Durango and Ram, MDS-equipped vehicles through the end of the 2007 model year will save more than 60 million gallons of fuel each year. The Chrysler Group MDS seamlessly alternates between smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed, and V-8 mode when more power from the 5.7L HEMI engine is in demand. This optimizes fuel economy when V-8 power is not required, without sacrificing vehicle performance or capability. Chrysler Group was the first to offer modern, large-volume vehicles in North America with cylinder deactivation - the HEMI-powered 2005 Chrysler 300C and Dodge Magnum R/T went on sale in the of spring 2004 with the Chrysler Group Multi-Displacement System, or MDS. Chrysler Group was also the first to offer cylinder deactivation in an SUV with the introduction of MDS in the 2005 HEMI-powered Jeep® Grand Cherokee. Chrysler Group is the first to offer MDS in a pickup truck - the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. MDS is a fuel-saving technology that is here today - customers get the power and capability of the HEMI V-8 that they desire with the fuel economy of a less powerful engine.
[August 8th -- WKJeeps.com] The legendary Jeep® brand hints at global portfolio expansion and explores all-new territory with the world premiere of two compact SUV concepts—the Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass Rallye. The Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass Rallye concepts are compact Jeep 4x4s that would deliver fun, freedom, utility, capability, as well as the potential for exceptional fuel economy and interior flexibility—all at a great value. The two concepts make their world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) on September 12. Jeep Compass Rallye The Jeep Compass Rallye concept broadens the global appeal of the Jeep brand. It’s a contemporary styled Jeep concept that targets new buyers who might not have previously considered the brand. Compact and nimble, Jeep Compass Rallye concept is the right size for world markets and is designed to offer a fun-to-drive experience, performance and fuel economy unexpected in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Jeep Patriot The Jeep® Patriot concept offers a modern interpretation of classic Jeep styling: rugged, strong and capable. It would appeal to young buyers looking to join the brand in a genuine Jeep vehicle that would deliver fun and freedom at a great value. Jeep Patriot not only looks like a Jeep, but all-new Jeep off-road technology would ensure Patriot could be a Jeep Trail Rated 4x4, making it the most capable vehicle in its class.

[May 31 -- WKJeeps.com] Originally planned for the latter part of the 2005 model year, Jeep's Dynamic Handling System has now been rescheduled for the 2006 model year. The new DHS system , sales code "SNA", will use the same front and rear stabilizer bars as the standard system but will add a sophisticated hydraulic control system. The fluid lines for the front and rear suspension cylinders are routed through a hydraulic manifold that is located in the front of the vehicle. We have not been able to determine a confirmed launch date for DHS, our best estimate is that it will become available in the first quarter of 2006. More information will be posted as soon as it becomes available. UPDATE (August 2005): It appears now that DHS has been cancelled for the 2006 model year...
[May 22 -- WKJeeps.com] In just a few weeks order banks will open up for the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee models. WKJeeps.com was the first source anywhere to publish information on the 2006 Jeep model line-up, including information on the SRT8 before it was officially announced. As exclusively mentioned here back in February, the upscale Overland model makes its return after skipping the 2005 model year. The 2006 Overland will feature the wood/leather steering wheel as before, along with custom 17" Platinum clad wheels and, as standard, the 5.7L MDS Hemi engine. The Overland will be available in September. For a complete and detailed list of features see our 2006 Overland page. Other models in the new fall lineup include the usual Laredo and Limited models. Just a few minor changes are in store for the returning 2006 Grand Cherokee's. Complete details on these upcoming models can be found on our 2006 Laredo page and our 2006 Limited pages.
[Nottsure, Ware, May 21 -- WKJeeps.com] On November 5th of this year Jeep will begin production on the new Grand Cherokee SRT8. We predict that the GC SRT8 will be the most popular and most sought after of all the SRT series models that have been released or announced so far. Like all SRT models, the GC version will be produced in limited quantities and DCX will stick to their policy of not revealing production numbers. A spokesperson from Jeep recently told us that ample quantities will be made available at launch to cover the anticipated early demand. We're not sure exactly what this means but you can bet that you won't see any rebates or discounts from MSRP. As has been the case with other SRT models, some dealers will take advantage of the limited production runs and command prices well above MSRP. Some models of the 300C SRT8, for example, have been sold for $10,000 or more above MSRP. However, a lot of 300C SRT8 buyers have been able to negotiate deals at or slightly above the typical $44,000-$47,000 MSRP range of fully-loaded models. Pricing has not yet been officially announced for the Grand Cherokee SRT8, and probably won't be until this fall. Information we have seen suggests that the base MSRP price will be in line with other SRT8 models, around $39,999.00. Add in the SRT options, navigation system, satellite radio, rear DVD and UConnect hands-free system and the MSRP price will most likely be in the same range as the 300C, around $44,000-$47,000. Note that the Jeep version of the SRT8 will NOT be subject to the $2000+ Gas Guzzler tax that is tacked on to vehicles like the 300C and Charger SRT8 versions. This is because the Jeep is classified as a "Truck". Order banks will open up for the Grand Cherokee in October. The GC SRT8 will be offered in four colors, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Black Clear Coat and Steel Blue Metallic Clear Coat. For detailed information on the GC SRT8, including exclusive information that cannot be found anywhere else, see our Grand Cherokee SRT8 page.
Expands to an Eight-City 'Camp Jeep On The Road' Tour
[AUBURN HILLS, MI, May 16 -- WKJeeps.com] Jeep enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get muddier more times than ever as the brand hosts its 11th annual Camp Jeep event and launches an all-new national driving tour, Camp Jeep On The Road. Camp Jeep, the brand's legendary summertime owner's program, gets back to basics August 12-14 in the scenic Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The fun- filled weekend event offers Jeep owners 4x4 trail rides, off-road driving courses, live concerts by national and emerging artists, plus the finals of the Jeep King of the Mountain Biking World Championships. New this year is the Jeep Memphis Belle Tour. This air show -- Camp Jeep's first -- will feature the legendary B-17 Flying Fortress on Friday, plus other vintage aircraft from WWII. Big band music and a parade of Jeep military vehicles are also planned for that day. The cost for the entire weekend is $385 per Jeep vehicle, or $335 for owners who register by May 31. Camp Jeep On The Road takes the best parts of the Camp Jeep experience directly to consumers with an eight-city tour. Themed "On the move and every bit as muddy," Camp Jeep On The Road offers visitors the opportunity to put the entire Jeep product line through its paces both on- and off-road, and includes a variety of activities synonymous with the Jeep lifestyle. "Last year Event Marketer magazine called Camp Jeep 'the preeminent annual owner-loyalty program'," said Jeff Bell, Vice President - Jeep, Chrysler Group. "Nothing has changed. In fact, this year's Camp Jeep will be even better. "When it comes to sharing the experience of legendary Jeep 4x4 capability and lifestyle with consumers, we have done it through Camp Jeep, Jeep King of the Mountain, Jeep Music Trax, gaming, sports and many other award-winning activities, Camp Jeep On The Road takes the best of our summer program and brings them directly to consumers -- those who already own a Jeep as well as those who dream of owning one."
Each two-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) event is free of charge for owners and non-owners alike. Camp Jeep On The Road offers a "Trail Rated" off-road course that will allow guests to navigate through obstacles such as steep grades, rocky trails, switchbacks and log crossing in a Jeep Wrangler, Liberty or Grand Cherokee under the guidance of a trained driving instructor. The street course will offer everyday driving tips, including safe acceleration as well as steering and braking techniques on a variety of surfaces. Each driving program conveys safety and educational messages in a fun, interactive environment. In addition to on-road and off-road test drives, Camp Jeep On The Road showcases a variety of Jeep lifestyle activities, including mountain biking, Quattro bungee jumping and a climbing wall. The "Camp Kids" area gives future Jeepers the opportunity to drive "Power Wheels" miniature Jeep vehicles. Jeep owners will receive special access to the Jeep Owners Playground, where they will have the chance to test their own vehicles on some of the most popular obstacles, including some of the Jeep "Trail Rated" elements. There will also be premium giveaways and special savings on new vehicles.
This year's Camp Jeep is in the Pocono Mountains -- the farthest east and farthest north the event has ever been held. The air show is a first for the event. The Jeep Memphis Belle Tour is Friday, August 12 at the Pocono Mountain Airport. In addition to a B-17, the air show will include a P-51 Mustang and a pair of P-47 Thunderbolts. The tour is named for the nickname of the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber that became a legend for surviving 25 missions during WWII. Popular elements of past Camp Jeep events remain, including the Jeep 101 course, which is designed to teach off-highway driving, safety skills and demonstrate the Trail Rated capabilities of the full line of Jeep vehicles. Participants are paired with experienced trail guides as they navigate steep grades and tackle challenges, such as large rocks, log crossings, sand and other off-highway obstacles. Once they master Jeep vehicle capabilities, they have a chance to navigate various levels of 4x4 trails in their own Jeep vehicles. In addition, Camp Jeep offers more than 150 activities for the entire family. The Kids Village features arts and crafts and a driving course with miniature Jeep vehicles. The Sports and Adventure Village features a variety of outdoor adventure sports, including mountain biking, climbing, hiking, fly- casting, and even scuba diving. The Thrills & Spills Village features extreme athletes performing high-flying action sports stunts and gives Jeep owners the opportunity to take a lesson from one of the athletes. The World of Jeep Village features a Jeep museum and the Jeep Gear Store. The die-hard Jeep owner can also visit the Engineering Village and participate in roundtable discussions with Jeep engineers to learn more about their vehicle's design, capabilities and features.
For the first time, the Jeep King of the Mountain series will be held in conjunction with two Jeep brand owner events: the Camp Jeep On The Road event in Grand Rapids, Mich., July 23-24, and Camp Jeep Poconos. The Jeep King of the Mountain Series features some of the world's top mountain bikers competing head-to-head to capture the King of the Mountain title and a share of the record prize purse, which tops $100,000, and the keys to a new 2006 Jeep Commander. An elite field of international professional racers -- six women and six men -- have been pre-qualified to participate in the Jeep King of the Mountain Series. The balance of the 16-athlete field -- two men and two women -- will qualify for each event in the Series based on points earned in National Off- Road Bicycling Association (NORBA) events, allowing these wildcard entrants a chance to compete against the best of the best for a shot at the coveted title. A national audience will be able to view the King of the Mountain Series on CBS Sports and through nationally syndicated television. The first two one-hour specials will be nationally syndicated during the June, July and August time period. The finals will air on CBS Sports in October 2005.
“By increasing the size of the HEMI badge, we’re building awareness and helping our customers communicate what they’re packing under the hood,” said George Murphy – Senior Vice President, Chrysler Group Marketing. “With more than 500,000 sold, the HEMI V-8 engine continues to resonate with consumers. The HEMI has become a brand within our brands. Across our Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge lineups, the take-rate for the HEMI is 44 percent.” For Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Jeep Grand Cherokee, the HEMI badge will increase 145 percent in size. For Dodge Ram and Durango, the size of the HEMI badge will increase 136 percent. First introduced on the Dodge Ram 2500 in 2003, Chrysler Group HEMI V-8 engine is elegantly simple. It achieves power, fuel economy and emissions goals with a design that is uncomplicated and cost effective. The versatile HEMI V-8 engine powers the Chrysler 300, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Ram and Dodge Durango. Launching this spring, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger will also feature the HEMI. Improving fuel economy by as much as 20 percent, Chrysler Group’s Multi-Displacement System (MDS) seamlessly alternates between smooth, high fuel economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed, and V-8 mode when more power from the 5.7-liter HEMI engine is in demand. For 2005, MDS is available on the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Following are current vehicle-specific take-rates for the HEMI V-8 engine at Chrysler Group:

Auburn Hills, Mich./Stuttgart, Germany, Apr 14, 2005 - The Jeep® Grand Cherokee, which debuted by being driven through a glass wall during the North American International Auto Show on Jan. 7, 1992, recently broke through another barrier: North American sales of the vehicle that redefined the sport-utility market surpassed three million units in March. Worldwide, nearly 3.5 million Jeep Grand Cherokees have been sold since that memorable introduction 13 years ago at the Cobo Convention Center in Detroit. "The first Jeep Grand Cherokee created the luxury sport-utility market," said Jeff Bell, Vice President - Jeep. "Since then, many very strong competitors have intensified the full-size SUV market. Yet, none have matched Grand Cherokee's combination of legendary Jeep 4x4 capability, on-road refinement, technological innovations and safety features." Jeep Grand Cherokee sales in March 2005 were 18,828 units, lifting sales to 3,013,296 units since the 1992 introduction of the vehicle. Last month's Grand Cherokee sales were up compared to February 2005 (15,531 units) and March 2004 (17,105 units). The first Jeep Grand Cherokee (code named ZJ) was introduced as a 1993 model. It achieved levels of comfort, ride and handling previously unavailable in a sport-utility vehicle, and was the first SUV to be equipped with a driver's side air bag. The second generation Grand Cherokee (WJ) was introduced in 1998 as a1999 model. Among its noteworthy features was the new Quadra-Drive® transfer case. A new concept in four-wheel-drive systems, it incorporated a progressive, speed-sensing torque transfer coupling. The system marked the first industry use of Vari-Lok axles that had progressive, speed-sensing torque transfer differentials, in both front and rear axles. Combining Quadra-Trac II® and Vari-Lok yielded the revolutionary Quadra-Drive system, which, without any driver involvement, keeps the vehicle moving even if only one wheel has minimal traction - a key customer benefit under all driving conditions. The current model (WK) was unveiled last year. All-new from the ground up, the award-winning 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best Grand Cherokee ever. Besides three new full-time four-wheel-drive systems, two new transfer cases, all-new independent and front suspension, rack and pinion steering (Jeep firsts), and an all-new five-speed transmission, the current Grand Cherokee was the first Jeep vehicle available with the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 and the Multi-Displacement System (MDS). MDS imperceptibly deactivates four cylinders when the V-8 is not needed. (The all-new 2006 Jeep Commander, due in showrooms this fall, will also be available with the HEMI engine.) The design of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is athletic and contemporary, yet embodies classic Jeep styling, including the Jeep brand's signature seven-slot grille, round headlamps and trapezoidal wheel openings. The new interior is refined, featuring a two-tone instrument panel with an easy-to-read instrument cluster, firm, beautifully crafted seats, chrome accents throughout, a gated automatic shifter and plenty of storage bins. Safety features include Electronic Stability Program, an All-Speed Traction Control System, advanced multi-stage air bags with an Occupant Classification System, anti-lock brakes, and SmartBeamTM headlamps that automatically and quickly adjust high-beam brightness and intensity, depending on nighttime light sources or traffic. Jeep brand sales continued their monthly sales acceleration by posting sales of 40,491 units in March, an increase of 1 percent over February 2005 sales.
Bigger and better than ever, the 45,000-square-foot display boasts a new 20-foot hill climb, 37 New York-area bands, the Jeep Life Card consumer VIP program and a special Jeep Kidz area. The interactive Jeep® display will give consumers an opportunity to truly experience the world’s most capable 4x4 vehicles and the lifestyle that goes with them. Chrysler Group is the only automotive manufacturer to offer on-site test drives at auto shows. The all-new 2006 Jeep Commander - the first ever seven-passenger, three-row Jeep vehicle - will make its debut and join the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Liberty on the Trail Rated test track, which will showcase the Jeep brand's off-road capabilities, including traction, articulation, ground clearance, maneuverability and water fording. Ten vehicles will operate on the test track at any given time and an additional 26 vehicles will be on display, including the Jeep Commander, Jeep Gladiator and Jeep Hurricane. “People want to do more than just look at vehicles, they want an experience to remember,” said George Murphy, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for the Chrysler Group. “At the Jeep display, event goers will see the vehicles inside and out, feel their capabilities and get a taste of the lifestyle that goes with the brand.” Test Track Fun Facts

March 18, 2005 -- Car and Driver has an article on "Rock-Climbing SUVs, Size M" in its April edition. Centered around Chicken Point in Sedona, Az., SUVs drove the 2.1 miles of the Broken Arrow trail, barely wide enough for one vehicle. The Jeep® Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD with a 5.7-liter HEMI® engine took first place among drivers, besting a field that included the Ford Explorer XLT V-8, Mitsubishi Montero Limited, Nissan Pathfinder SE Off-Road, Toyota 4Runner 4WD Sport Edition and Volkswagen Touareg V-6. "The Jeep, propelled vigorously by the largest engine in the group, finished atop the ratings by a clear margin. Zero to 60 in 6.8 seconds puts this 4,920-pound SUV at the front of the pack. Nothing else was close," said the article. Drivers gave the Grand Cherokee top marks for ergonomics and an overall verdict of "truck credibility without truck rudeness," calling the vehicle "a plush, fast, all-weather road car with the power and traction for incautious journeys—even to Chicken Point, if you don't chicken out." March 7, 2005 - Today the first all-new Jeep® Grand Cherokee rolled off the line as production officially began at the Magna Steyr manufacturing facility in Graz, Austria. DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group and Magna Steyr made a $27.6 million (€23 million) capital investment in the reconstruction of the plant’s body and paint shops, in addition to significant production line flexibility improvements. About 1,200 employees have been trained to work with the new equipment and new processes, ensuring a smooth transition and consistent production quality. These combined enhancements make the plant well prepared to accommodate Jeep Grand Cherokee production for Europe and other world markets. “The launch of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee is evidence of the vehicle’s success in Europe and around the world, especially where modern diesel engine technology plays a crucial role,” said Chrysler Group President and Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche. “This is the most refined Jeep Grand Cherokee we’ve ever built, and its on-road manners achieve luxury car standards.” Jeep Grand Cherokee is the flagship of the Jeep brand worldwide. The new Grand Cherokee continues a tradition of Jeep innovation with state-of-the-art technology, sophisticated design and the latest in on-road refinement and off-road capability. In Europe and other markets outside of North America, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will offer a new diesel engine and two gasoline powerplants. The all-new 3.0-liter V-6 common-rail diesel engine is based on the latest Mercedes-Benz technology and offers outstanding performance along with the refinement and efficiency international buyers are looking for. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee will also offer, for the first time on a Jeep vehicle, the 5.7-liter HEMI® engine with Multi-Displacement System (MDS) for improved fuel economy. The proven 4.7-liter V-8 engine will continue to be available as well. Flexible Production with Well-trained Workforce DaimlerChrysler Management Austria – Chrysler Group’s contract management team for Graz production – worked closely with Magna Steyr in the preparation of their facility for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. The plant went through an eight-week tooling, equipment and manufacturing process changeover at the end of 2004 and into 2005. The body shop was completely rebuilt, and 75 percent of the conveyor line and marriage system was replaced. As a result, the flexible production line is now equipped to build multiple Chrysler Group models, while simultaneously piloting an additional model. “This allows the plant to introduce new vehicles without disrupting the production of current models. Even with the addition of many new high-tech product features on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, our employees continue to build in consistent quality with each vehicle that rolls off the line,” said Manfred Remmel, President and CEO of Magna Steyr. Nearly 1,200 plant employees were trained in preparation for the new vehicle production. A staggered training strategy ensures high quality levels from the start. This approach included early process training with plant employees at the Chrysler Group’s Plymouth Road Jeep and truck engineering facility in Detroit as well as extensive training at Magna Steyr. Magna Steyr is the exclusive production site for Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel engine and right-hand-drive models. The facility has produced the Grand Cherokee since 1994 and since that time has produced almost 300,000 units. March 1, 2005 - Making its European debut today at the 75th Salon de l’Automobile in Geneva, the new, third-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a sportier appearance, improved on-road ride and handling and superior off-road capability — all in a well-appointed package with a number of new premium amenities. The result is a Jeep that is all-new from the ground up, and all Jeep from the inside out. “Jeep Grand Cherokee sets the benchmark with its on-road refinement, off-road mastery and best-in-class performance in three key areas of customer satisfaction: engine power, off-road traction and towing capabilities,” said Thomas Hausch, Executive Director of International Sales and Marketing—Chrysler Group. “Now with the new 3.0 CRD engine and 5.7-litre HEMI® with MDS, it becomes an even more compelling package for customers in Europe and other international markets.” Jeep Grand Cherokee brings customers an all-new state-of-the-art 3.0-litre V-6 common-rail turbo diesel (CRD) engine, and for the first time ever, the 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 engine is available on a Jeep vehicle. These two engines drive Grand Cherokee to provide best-in-class power. The popular 4.7-litre SOHC V-8 engine will continue to be available. The all-new 3.0-litre V-6 CRD engine is a “next-generation” power unit from the DaimlerChrysler Group producing class-leading levels of power and torque, with good fuel economy. With Bosch high-pressure fuel injection (2000+ bar), a variable geometry turbocharger and four valves per cylinder, the new engine meets Euro 4 emissions standards without a diesel particulate filter. Maximum power is 160 kW (218 hp DIN) and peak torque is 510 N•m (376 lb.-ft.) from just 1800 rpm. For the diesel engine, a kick-down switch is now added to the accelerator pedal. This detent, reached before the full travel of the pedal, is intended to reduce transmission kick-downs during normal driving but still allow for full pedal travel when a quicker acceleration is wanted by the driver.
